The IB program is recognized around the world  for its inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, strong professional development for staff, and development of international mindedness in students. Spokane International Academy is a candidate school for the PYP and MYP. The full process of authorization as an official IB World School takes approximately 2-3 years to complete.

SIA's IB programme will emphasize an "IB for All" mentality, meaning all students at SIA are considered IB students. This philosophy is consistent with our mission statement and honors the fact that all of our students are valuable members of our community. These standards are high, but we believe all students who are committed to being successful will find joy and challenge in this program.

Students in grades K-5 will participate in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and grades 6-8 will participate in the Middle Years Programme (MYP)

IB Learner Profile

At the center of international education in the IB are students with their own learn learning styles, strengths and limitations. Students come to school with combinations of unique and shared patterns of values, knowledge and experience of the world and their place in it.

Promoting open communication based on understanding and respect, the IB encourages students to become active, compassionate lifelong learners. An IB education is holistic in nature - it is concerned with the whole person. Along with cognitive development, IB programs and qualifications address students' social, emotional and physical well-being. The learner profile is the IB's mission in action. It requires IB learners to strive to become inquirers, knowledgable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. These attributes of internationally minded people represent a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond a concern for intellectual development and academic content.
