Students and staff of Spokane International Academy chose the Phoenix for the school's mascot at the beginning of our first year of operation. Our community felt that the Phoenix truly symbolized what opening a new school meant for all of us, a new beginning a rebirth of how school could look and feel for the community that came together to form Spokane International Academy.

 

In Greek mythology the phoenix is a bird that is regenerated or reborn cyclically. The Phoenix obtains new life by arising gloriously from the ashes of its predecessor, symbolizing renewal. SIA was born out experiences and life that its staff and students brought with them from other places, but has been reborn as a new educational opportunity for our local community.
